hi mantrakid.
prominent genre births *related to idm? grime? thats more of a
geosocial classification than a genre though. overall though, i dont
think any new genres have been 'birthed' so much as an increase in
cross-genre pollination taking place -- apparantly, the emo kids are
into noise these days, which is okay by me. it may be a cliche concept
but i really think that the music scene in general is catching up to
the realities of modern day distrubution channels and that sort of
scales back the need for having different genres in some cases, as you
dont really need to be able to sort things easily if there really
aren't too many record stores left!
as to whether or not someone who dosen't know what IDM is being able
to classify it -- i think that's about as relevant as being able to
say the word for 'rose' in french when you see a rose in france..
